PREMIER EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE
The teaching methodology and curriculum at iHHS have been designed by master teachers. The strategic mix of methodologies facilitates self-reflective learning. The curriculum does not dictate how you will eventually practice. Rather, it offers a theoretical foundation to support your self-reliance. The goal is to excite you toward self-directed learning, with your teachers serving as guides and facilitators.
Hypnotherapy is serious business, but you should also enjoy meaningful learning. Adult learners are unique. Intensive training ensures direct, needs-based instruction. Our goal is to never lose sight of your goal; to become a successful, practicing, clinical hypnotherapist.
Hypnotherapy is a helping and healing profession. Like any profession, considerable effort is required to learn and master its skills. iHealth Hypnotherapy School ensures that knowledge and skills are delivered to students with sufficient time for comprehension, integration and creative application. We help students develop sufficient knowledge and competency to become successful practitioners. And, that takes time; in effect you have only 300 clock hours to learn a new art-form.
iHHS faculty have extensive experience in both higher education and clinical practice. Dr. Neill’s expertise in curriculum design and instruction, combined with Dr. Stork’s expertise in methodology and evaluation, means they understand the necessity of properly sequenced instruction and skill practice to enhance assimilation and integration of content. They have designed a program that integrates content delivery with self-reinforced learning. This integrated model of instruction creates the self-confidence to translate theory into practice.
Upon passing the iHealth Hypnotherapy School exam and an ACHE exam, students are eligible to practice Clinical Hypnotherapy, subject to state regulations or licensure requirements.
Training is conducted in the Studio of Harmony at iHealth Center in Roanoke, TX. Students work directly with faculty for lectures, clinical demonstrations, and student labs. We offer a mix of didactic and interactive formats to suit visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles. Role-plays provide students with hands-on experience as well as developing sensitivity to clients’ perceptions. Faculty members carefully review and assess all homework assignments, provide constructive feedback, and help individual students develop appropriate improvements.
4-Tier Blended Model of Instruction
We sequence instruction to scaffold knowledge. New information is built upon prior knowledge. At each step of the process, students are reminded of the relevance of prior learning. That is a direct contrast to the “test-it-and-forget-it” model of learning most grade school and college students have come to expect. At iHHS, we anticipate you will eventually use everything you learn about clinical hypnotherapy to your professional advantage.
• Tier 1: Knowledge & Comprehension. Direct instruction. Instructor-mediated discussions as students complete reading assignments, case histories, and view CD/DVDs. Instructors guide students to develop knowledge and understanding of hypnotherapy literature and clinical skills.
• Tier 2: Application. Once you understand what you are doing, we teach you via practice, practice, practice. Hypnotherapists must be prepared to deal with what emerges. That means paying attention to clients and adopting intuitively creative solutions to meet clients’ needs. Be prepared to hypnotize classmates and volunteer subjects, and to be hypnotized yourself.
• Tier 3: Synthesis: Instructor-led discussions. Once basic clinical skills are mastered, students learn how to improvise creative solutions. Instructors challenge students by posing scenarios for them to role-play. Specific answers are not found in books. You will derive solutions from prior learning. Instructors will probe and guide you to develop self-confidence in expressing creativity unique to your own life experience.
• Tier 4: Evaluation: Instructor-Mediated discussions. The breadth and skills of form and structure in clinical hypnotherapy often means you have to adapt quickly, yet accurately. The ability to differentiate and apply effective and appropriate practices; versus over-reliance on scripts and a limited repertoire of skills; leads to a level of intuitive competence that is self-reinforcing. Confidence arises via artful progress from tier to tier.
Continuous Professional Development
To ensure that students develop a sense of professional confidence, iHHS offers training in business basics. It takes more than knowledge and skills in hypnotherapy to be a successful clinical hypnotherapist. A whole other arena of business savvy and people skills is critical to starting and developing a successful practice. Basic business courses are part of the training program. Advanced business courses are available to graduates and practicing hypnotherapists. Professional mentoring is a further option. Part of the iHHS mission is continuous quality improvement for clinical hypnotherapists.
